Information for Referring Professionals

Thank you for considering ASCEND MindSpace as a counselling resource for the people you work with. This page provides the practical information you need to refer with confidence — the clinical orientation, the populations served, the referral process, and how to make contact.

About the Practice

ASCEND MindSpace is the private counselling practice of Tasleem, a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor – Candidate (RTCc) credentialed through the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT). The practice provides individual counselling to adults and adolescents across British Columbia through secure online sessions, with in-person availability planned for the Vancouver area.

Services are provided under regular clinical supervision in keeping with RTCc credential requirements and ACCT ethical standards.

Clinical Orientation

The practice is trauma-informed and regulation-focused, drawing on IFS-informed and somatic frameworks, polyvagal theory, and mindfulness-based approaches. The clinical emphasis is on establishing nervous system steadiness before deeper reflection — an approach particularly suited to clients managing sustained stress, conflict, or destabilising circumstances. The practice is deliberately non-directive and non-adversarial: it supports a client’s capacity for clarity and decision-making without steering outcomes or escalating conflict.

Areas of Particular Working Knowledge

ASCEND MindSpace works with adults and adolescents across a range of presenting concerns, with particular working knowledge in:

–       High-conflict separation and the emotional dimension of family conflict

–       Coercive relational dynamics and post-separation adjustment

–       Betrayal trauma and the aftermath of significant relationship rupture

–       Rebuilding self-trust and confidence after difficult relationships

–       Anxiety, chronic stress, and emotional overwhelm

–       Life transitions and identity change

–       The emotional and relational realities of parenting neurodivergent children

The practitioner also brings more than two decades of experience in business leadership and operational management, and direct experience navigating complex family and educational systems — context that informs work with clients managing multiple intersecting demands.

Who Is an Appropriate Referral

ASCEND MindSpace is well-suited to adults and adolescents who would benefit from individual counselling support during or after a period of relational difficulty, conflict, or sustained stress. It is a particularly good fit for clients who:

–       Need a counsellor who works calmly and does not escalate conflict

–       Are capable, high-functioning individuals whose clarity and confidence have been affected by prolonged stress

–       Are navigating separation, co-parenting conflict, or family breakdown and need emotional support alongside any legal or mediation process

–       Are managing the effects of a controlling or destabilising relationship

In the interest of clear referrals, the following defines what the practice does not provide. ASCEND MindSpace does not provide legal advice, custody or parenting assessments, forensic or evaluative reports, court testimony, or any service intended to support one party’s position in a dispute. It is not a crisis or emergency service. The practitioner does not diagnose. Where a client’s needs fall outside this scope, an appropriate onward referral will be offered.

The Referral Process

There is no formal referral form. You are welcome to provide a client with the practice details, or to contact the practice directly to discuss whether a particular client may be an appropriate fit. New clients begin with a complimentary 30-minute consultation, which allows both the client and the practitioner to determine fit before any commitment.

With appropriate client consent, the practitioner is glad to maintain appropriate professional communication with referring providers where it supports the client’s care, within the bounds of confidentiality and professional ethics.
